Hiking at Horton....2.26.17

Devyn's crazy face #1....
As we near the conclusion of Black History Month, the girls and I enjoyed a historical hike with Outdoor Afro at the Horton Grove Nature Preserve in Durham County.  (Sunday, February 26, 2017)

And Devyn's crazy face #2.

Beky, leader of the Triangle chapter, shares some historical and scientific facts about the area.

Devyn shares a Black history fact with the group.
Maya also shares a Black history fact with the group.

A large barn on the property that was built by enslaved ship builders.  The plantation owner wanted the interior of the barn build like an upside down ship.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to see the inside.

The home of a sharecropper that lived on the property.

Of course I had to take pics of the weird shaped trees and nature's other works of art.

The best pic of the day.  :)

Playing Outside.... By Myself.... 2.18.17

After my plans to work today (Saturday, February 18, 2017) were changed, I decided to take a little hike while Maya was attending Delta Academy.  I found that Jamestown Park had some walking trails, and I was more than elated when I found the natural paths.  These pictures will look like a bunch of dead trees and nothingness to some, but to me they're a great flashback to my childhood when my cousins and I went walking through the woods as young kids.  Those were some of my best times in life.  We were carefree explorers. I may have mentioned it before, but until recently I didn't realize that we were really hiking.  To us we were just playing outside.  So today, I played outside by myself.

Minus the bridge, this reminds me of catching 'crayfish and salamanders' down at the spring

I tried to walk across this, and actually made it halfway.

Twice and Just as Good....

For the second time in my life, I was able to see The O'Jays, The Mighty O'Jays that is, live!  They have been my all time favorite old school R&B group.  Seeing them live was on my dream list, which the first time I saw them was back in 2013 at the War Memorial Auditorium.  They were actually the last performance before the auditorium was torn down.  Thanks Michelle Sinclair for hanging with me that night.

Tonight (Friday, 2.3.17), they performed at the Rhythms of Triumph-Rep Your Decade concert.   Dru Hill kicked it off, reppin' the 90s.  Midnight Star was second, reppin' the 80s, and The Mighty O'Jays concluded the show reppin' the 70s.  The pics aren't the greatest, but hopefully they'll help the memory last forever.

I was even able to snag a picture of Nana Ramey jammin' to the O'Jays.
