No More Left Foot (11.26.17)

In an effort to try new things, Mona wanted to go to an escape room for her birthday.  She signed us up for the "Hostage" Room with Psycho 60 in Kernersville.  I must say that it was an interesting experience.

Upon arrival, we listened to Shana as she read the rules.  Then our "host", Mike,  gave us more instructions.  I was thoroughly confused.  We then gathered ourselves in the breakroom area while we waited for Mike to get ready.  All of a sudden, he busts in with a fake gun and robber costume, and shoves us into another room where he gives us more instructions.  He forced us to line up against the wall and attach explosives to our bodies.  The objective was to solve the puzzles to find the keys to unlock and deactivate the explosives within one hour.   The "Hostage" room was for the more experienced problem solvers, and this was everyone's first time participating in an escape room.  We were able to get a few clues from Mike along the way, and managed to free everyone's explosives, except one.  For whatever reason, Mike picked me to have two explosives.   Unfortunately,  we were unable to unlock the one around my left ankle.  Time ran out and no more foot for me!!!

It was a fun experience though.

One, two, Wooooooo (11.25.17)

It's Friday night at 7:05pm.  The tv is set to channel TBS.  It's Saturday night at 6:05pm.  The tv is set to TBS.  It's Sunday night at 6:05pm.  The tv is set to TBS.  And this is how the weekends went throughout my childhood- almost every weekend for upteen years.  What was so important that we had to watch it that many times???

WRESTLING, of course.   My grandma loved wrestling, and if we were home,  it was on the tv.  "Kick 'him!" "Stomp him!"  "Grab him in the nuts!"  Sorry, but those were her words,  not mine.  And she was in her late 60s-70s saying all of this.  It was hilarious to watch,  and I really miss those moments.

That's why working at the WE Starrcade tonight ended up being so nostalgic.  This is the 3rd or 4th wrestling event that I have worked, but tonight was super special.   It was like riding a cloud back in time.   I was able to see several of the people that my granny was screaming at through the tv, live and in person.

Arn Anderson, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat,  The Rock and Roll Express, Dustin Rhodes in honor of Dusty Rhodes, and the incomparable "Woooo" man himself, Ric Flair, were all in my presence tonight.   Legends.

The sad part is that I wasn't able to get any pics since I was working.   But the visuals from my childhood memories have just been renewed.

Ginny D and I definitely had our differences throughout the years, but I felt her spirit with me tonight.   And I enjoyed every minute of it.

Because THAT's What Aggies Do!!! (11.18.17-11.19.17)

When I first attended A&T in the fall of 1995, the Aggie-Eagle Classic took place Labor Day weekend.  It has since moved to the end of the season, and is almost as big as GHOE.  It has always reminded me of my high school's rivalry with Laurel Park magnified by 100!.

This year so much was on the line.  NCCU has beaten the Aggies several years in a row.  But this year we were 10-0 and tired of them beating us.  And I'm proud to say that we won!!!  A-G-G-I-E, WHAT!  P-R-I-D-E, WHAT!  GIVE ME DAT, GIVE ME DAT! WHAT! GIVE ME DAT! GIVE ME DAT!

I even celebrated the game with an Eagle (NCCU) and a Spartan (Norfolk State).

Now THAT's what Aggies do-we win!!!  Maybe not every game, but WE are winners overall.  Now let's go win the Celebration Bowl in December.  ATL, here I come to add to the sea of blue and gold!

Sunday was a filled with so much of God's grace and power.  Bishop Pierce's word gave me confirmation on some things going on in my life right now.  DR even came to worship with me like old times.  God showed up and showed out in a way that's too much to post in this blog, but DR and I have a new amazing memory that only we share.

Later that evening, Tasha Cobbs Leonard had an amazing and anointed concert at MTZBC.  She is phenomenal!

Veterans Day with a Veteran (11.10.17-11.12.17)

For whatever reason, my family loves the Navy.  I guess it started with my Uncle Bunky being the first, then a slew of cousins followed suit.  I even almost joined after high school and then once again before I went back to A&T, just to get school money.  However, the thought of morning PT, being overseas on a boat, someone really bossing me around, and many other reasons ruled it out for me.

After visiting my two cuzzos in the FL/GA area last year, I knew I wanted to go back this year with the intent of taking my girls.  Unfortunately, Dee didn't get to go, but Maya and I rustled up my mom (who is typically planted tree root deep in VA) and we headed down to GA to visit my cousin William.

We headed out Friday late morning, and ended up at a Cracker Barrel along the way.  The waitress brought me this pickle vinegar, which I had never heard of before, so I gave it a try.  It was actually pretty good, and it had a kick to it.

One day, I'll stop having the camera all up in my face looking huge for these selfies!

Since she didn't want to properly pose for the pic, this is what I'm posting.

Thanks Tamika for the breakfast both mornings. We concluded that these kids just can't get enough of Snapchat.  Her daughter, Kayla, is just as addicted as Maya.  Here I am doing reenactments of their Snapchat binges...

Saturday morning after breakfast and chit chat, we all suited up for a visit to the new Ikea in Jacksonville.  Maya and I have already been to Ikea a couple of times, so it was going to be interesting to see everyone else's first experience.  Apparently, many other people had the same idea.  I couldn't believe that we had to park and take a shuttle to get to the place.

Will is UM's biggest fan!  They mutilated Notre Dame that night too.

It was an overwhelming experience, and I don't think William will be going back to Ikea!!!

Of course, I was reppin' for my Aggies and trying to talk Kayla into coming to A&T

Quick selfie at the mall after Ikea
It was a quick visit, but well worth it.  I definitely enjoyed our time there.

Four cities in three days (and five cities in three days for my mom), and I think I'm already ready to do it again.  Until next time....
