August Randoms

The adventures of this month have been few, but I'm just mighty grateful to be alive and to have experienced some of the ups and downs of life.

From moving to a new place and moving my daughter into her OWN new place, it has still been a great month.

Here are some of my highlights:

Moving Mania:
Between August 11-13, I'm sure I went up about 75 million steps!  My new place is on the 2nd floor and Dee's new place is on the 2nd floor.  And since neither of us are the greatest at packing (more randomly putting stuff in crates, boxes, and bags, we made numerous trips up and down, back and forth.  But with the help of Maya, some movers, my friend-sister and her husband, and my Goddaughter, we got it all done.  Unfortunately, I didn't get many pics.
However, I did get a pic of one of the first visitors to my new apartment.
Meet Big Bird, an Imperial Moth

Puppy Power:
On Saturday, August 19, Maya, her bestie, and I ventured to Winston Salem to look for my new furbaby at the AARF rescue.  We fell in love with a little fella named Watt.  He's a min pin chihuahua mix, and he was the sweetest.  Unfortunately, there were many applications for him and his siblings, and someone else beat us to the punch.  We finished up the afternoon with our first trip to Trader Joe's, some swimming, quesadillas, and crochet braids.  There was this young kid who tried to ruin the mood by screaming out "Make America Great Again" when more black people made their way to the pool.  I'm sure some wouldn't have a problem with that, but it was the way and the timing of when he said it that really annoyed me.  I won't go into too many details about the situation, but I just had to remind the girls of how they shouldn't act like fools just because others do and they definitely shouldn't let the foolish acts of others get them defeated.
I also had to get into DIY mode and install some crochet braids.
Maya and those crazy faces!!!

Science Project:
My pH testing kit came in, and I went to work testing the acidity of water.  Some of the results were surprising.  The darker the water the more alkaline and better for you.  The closer to orange and yellow, the more acidic and not so great for you.

Trader Joe's alkaline water (advertised as 9.5 & it's true)

More DIY-Custom Upholstered Headboard:
I originally wanted to do a tufted headboard using plywood or pegboard.  After researching more on YouTube, I came across a method using cardboard.  So I gathered my materials:  a cardboard box from my dining table set, an old foam mattress pad, batting, staple gun and staples, tape, and fabric (a shower curtain).

I couldn't find the crepe material I wanted in gray, so I just decided on this.

Final product.  I've lowered it since taking the pic.

Of course, I'm pleased with the final results.  And it was super easy. I nixed the idea of doing the tufting, but I may go back and do it later.  I'm not sure that I really needed the staples, as it seems like the tape did a good job.  I did end up having to using some thumb tacks to help keep it up against the wall.  I didn't want to put too many holes in the wall since it's an apartment.  I also have some Command strips  on the back to help secure it.

Now that the month is almost over, I've got to throw in some real adventures.  But just taking this life one day at a time...
